Knowledge and Skills Statement

Developing and sustaining foundational language skills: listening, speaking, discussion, and thinking -- oral language. The student develops oral language through listening, speaking, and discussion.

Use una lista de observación para evaluar al estudiante en diferentes escenarios a lo largo del día. La lista de observación podría incluir lo siguiente:

  • participa bien con otros en pareja o en grupos de trabajo
  • levanta la mano para pedir hablar durante las discusiones en grupo
  • espera su turno para hablar durante las discusiones de grupo
  • espera su turno durante los juegos o durante las actividades de transición (ponerse en fila, ir al baño, etc.)
  • ofrece respuestas apropiadas durante las discusiones en grupo
  • escucha a otros antes de responderles

Este tipo de lista de observación puede incluir una escala. Por ejemplo, el estudiante podría recibir un + para “muy seguido”, un * para “a veces” o un – para “nunca”. 

Students should understand that working productively with others requires a shared agreement of not only the goals of the partnership but also the expectations for behavior and process for working and communicating together. These established guidelines can encourage the development of a sense of personal accountability and respect as students understand that their individual actions can impact the collective success of the group.

This student expectation is related to the following SE from the 2009 reading/language arts TEKS.

(23)  Listening and Speaking/Teamwork. Students work productively with others in teams. Students continue to apply earlier standards with greater complexity. Students are expected to follow agreed-upon rules for discussion, including taking turns and speaking one at a time.
