Students are expected to determine how newly acquired vocabulary can help them communicate an idea with precision. Students should understand that words are not automatically more or less effective based on how complex or common they are, but instead that words should be chosen because they express a specific idea or emotion necessary for the recipient of the message to comprehend meaning. Students need various language acquisition skills, such as using reference materials or context clues, to ensure they have a robust vocabulary that allows them to precisely convey an idea.
