Knowledge and Skills Statement

Practical technology concepts--skills and tools. The student selects appropriate methods or techniques for an assigned task and identifies and solves simple hardware and software problems using common troubleshooting strategies.

The further explanation is designed to be a resource for educators that helps them better understand the topic their students are learning. Further explanations may be written at a more complex level than would be expected for students at the grade level.

Common hardware issues:
Certain hardware issues can be solved by the user employing (running) a variety of troubleshooting techniques. For example, when a monitor is blank, make sure it is plugged in and the power switch is on. If a remote mouse is not responding, ensure the battery is not depleted.

Common software issues:
When encountering software issues, students can attempt to solve them with various troubleshooting strategies. For example, if a program is not responding, close the application using the force quit function or try to log out of the application and log back in.
