Knowledge and Skills Statement

Composition: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--writing process. The student uses the writing process recursively to compose multiple texts that are legible and uses appropriate conventions.

Puede usar los criterios de evaluación que siguen como posible herramienta para checar el progreso de los estudiantes. Estos criterios deben evaluarse cuando los estudiantes están elaborando borradores y cuando han terminado un borrador final.

Ejemplo de criterios de evaluación:

1) El estudiante es incapaz de editar borradores para crear oraciones completas con concordancia sujeto-verbo, incluso con la ayuda de un adulto.

2) El estudiante es capaz de editar, en forma inconsistente, borradores para crear oraciones completas con concordancia sujeto-verbo con la ayuda de un adulto.

3) El estudiante es capaz de editar, en forma consistente, borradores para crear oraciones completas con concordancia sujeto-verbo con la ayuda de un adulto.

4) El estudiante es capaz de editar, en forma independiente, borradores para crear oraciones completas con concordancia sujeto-verbo.

During the editing stage of the writing process, students further improve their draft and often prepare it for publishing by correcting errors, adding clarity, and using more precise and effective word choice. Students may add, delete, or rearrange words or sentences and remove unnecessary information.
Students are expected to use complete sentences, with the correct subject-verb agreement, when they write. A complete sentence consists of one independent clause (e.g., Camila se sentó en su lugar en cuanto llegó). A clause includes an independent subject (Camila, in this example) and a verb (sentó, in this example) to express a complete thought. The subject and verb in a complete sentence should always agree. Such agreement refers to the singular and plural forms. The subject and the verb in the following sentence, El cartero pusieron las cartas en el buzón, are not in agreement because El cartero is a singular subject, whereas the verb pusieron is in plural form. The correct verb should be in singular form: puso.
