Inquiry and research: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts. The student engages in both short-term and sustained recursive inquiry processes for a variety of purposes.

One option for assessing this SE would be through observation and anecdotal notes taken during whole or small group discussions that involve inquiry and research. The teacher can ask questions to help the student generate questions for inquiry.

1) The student is unable to generate questions for informal or formal inquiry.
2) The student generates questions for inquiry, but has difficulty staying on topic or asking purposeful questions.

4) The student generates questions for informal and formal inquiry with little to no adult assistance.
