Knowledge and Skills Statement

Composition: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--writing process. The student uses the writing process recursively to compose multiple texts that are legible and uses appropriate conventions.

In, the editing stage, students should improve drafts for appropriate punctuation, including the use of commas to set off words, phrases, and clauses. Commas used this way can draw attention to information that adds specificity to a sentence (e.g., the inclusion of a descriptive phrase in the sentence “Aunt Sophia, tall and menacing, stood in the doorway”).
