Administer a Keyboarding Test
Keyboarding tests should range from five to ten tasks a week with possible bonus challenges if necessary. Begin with numbers and upper- and lower-case letters, then introduce words and special keys.
Notes:
- In the beginning, a visual reference may be required to assist students in the assessments. (e.g., A list of letters and numbers the students must reproduce using a keyboard.)
- As students gain more experience, auditory prompts should be provided. (e.g., Use the space bar to advance to the next letter. Now enter the letter "j".)
- Spelling words are a good reference for visual references or auditory prompts.
- Numbers up to 20 may be used.
- Over time, simple sentences aligned with reading language arts standards should be included.
