Administer a Keyboarding Test

Keyboarding tests should range from five to ten tasks or questions a week with possible bonus challenges if necessary. Begin with words, numbers, and special keys and then add simple sentences to the assessment.

Notes:

  • A visual reference may be required to assist students in the assessments. (e.g., A list of words and simple sentences the students must reproduce using a keyboard.)
  • Auditory prompts should be provided without the visual references. (e.g., Use the shift key and type an upper-case "M," now type a lower-case "e.")
  • Spelling words and math symbols are a good source for the visual references or auditory prompts.
  • Numbers up to 1,200 and those that include decimal points may be used. Monetary references may also be used.
  • Simple sentences should align with reading, language arts standards, including student-generated sentences.
