Knowledge and Skills Statement
Use an observational checklist or anecdotal notes in the whole group or a small group to document whether students can recognize characteristics and structures of informational text, including the steps in a sequence. Consider using prompts to assist students.
Example of adult prompt:
We just read a story about baking bread. Let's talk through the steps of baking bread. Open your book and try to find the first thing you should do. Yes, you first need to make sure you have all the ingredients to make bread. Now, let's think about the next step. Keep flipping in your book to find the next step. You might want to look on page five. Great! Next, we mix all the ingredients together. What is the last thing you to do bake bread? That's right, we put the bread in the oven.
