Knowledge and Skills Statement
One option for assessing the SE would be through observation and anecdotal notes taken during the research process. A one-on-one conference can be used to ask questions to the student about the information he gathered.
Sample Rubric:
1) The student is unable to understand information gathered with adult assistance.
2) The student states one fact learned from the information gathered with adult assistance.
3) The student states two to three facts learned from the information gathered with adult assistance.
4) The student demonstrates deep understanding of the information gathered with adult assistance by being able to state at least four to five facts learned with adult assistance.
Note:
This skill requires extensive modeling by the teacher and should be introduced and practiced as a whole-class activity. Therefore, demonstrated proficiency of this skill is expected toward the end of kindergarten.
