Author's craft refers to the tools and techniques a writer uses to compose text (e.g., tone, voice, structure, style). Students should understand that writers make intentional choices when it comes to the use of language, word choice, sentence structure, and organizational patterns.
Students are expected to know the characteristics of various literary genres and the craft elements common to the construction of texts in those genres. Students are also expected to synthesize these structures and techniques for use in their own compositions to achieve specific intended purposes.
